N-Acetyl Cysteine - 120 Capsules | Moss Nutrition
Description
N-ACETYL CYSTEINE (NAC) is a derivative of the amino acid L-cysteine and functions as an antioxidant in multiple body systems, notably the lungs. It also exhibits anti-inflammatory properties.
NAC is biologically important as a precursor to glutathione, the body's most powerful and prevalent antioxidant. Therapeutically, NAC is often used to help replenish intracellular levels of glutathione, to mitigate oxidative damage and to help support healthy lung and bronchial function.
NAC also helps to support the healthy functioning of the immune system, to increase resistance to seasonal colds and flu and to promote healthy liver structure/function. It specifically may help to optimize Phase II detoxification by promoting glutathione synthesis and conjugation in the liver.
Following exposure to toxic heavy metals, notably methylmercury and lead, N-Acetyl Cysteine has been shown to protect DNA from oxidative stress and damage. NAC also has been used in sports medicine applications to protect tissues from the damaging effects of exercise-induced oxidative stress, and to help support rapid, post-workout recovery. Currently, NAC is being researched for its role in modulating dopamine and glutamate neurotransmitter pathways.
