Frequently Asked Questions:
Are these products vegan friendly?
Yes - the entire range is Vegan Australia Certified
Can I take Preconception Multi for women during pregnancy?
Yes - Ideally you would switch to Prenatal Trimester One with Ginger as soon as you find out you're pregnant but if you have some Preconception Multi for Women leftover, you could take them in the second trimester when your morning sickness subsides.
How long should I take Prenatal Trimester One with Ginger?
It is best to take this formula as soon as you find out you're pregnant and keep taking it until your morning sickness subsides (usually around week 14-16).
I'm currently breastfeeding and preparing for my next pregnancy, should I continue to take Prenatal Trimester 2 & 3 Plus Breastfeeding or switch to Preconception Multi for Women?
You can take either formula during breastfeeding.
Why isn't there any vitamin K in the prenatal formula's?
Vitamin K has very poor placental transfer which is why vitamin K is given to babies at birth. Vitamin K1 (phytomenadione) promotes blood clotting which is not usually something we want to do during pregnancy. As long as a woman is eating plenty of green, leafy veggies she should meet her daily requirement of vitamin K1 (phytomenadione). When vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is an ingredient in a calcium supplement then that would be fine to take during pregnancy. It is best to take calcium supplements at least 2 hours away iron and zinc supplements. These minerals antagonise calcium and may interfere with absorption.
I’m currently taking trimester 2&3 capsules. Am I able to take the calcium and magnesium you offer as well??
Absolutely! We recommend taking the cal-mag powder throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding – it’s best taken at night after dinner
Can you use the Stress & Sleep PM Formula during pregnancy at all?
We do not recommend Stress & Sleep PM Formula in the first trimester as lavender and chamomile are contraindicated at that stage. Your medical herbalist may recommend you use this later in pregnancy from about 28 weeks onwards if needed. As an alternative, you could try our calcium and magnesium powder after dinner instead.
What is difference between the preconception and prenatal vitamins??
The main difference is in the levels of nutrients in the different formulations. This is because during the preconception period and the different trimesters of pregnancy, there are different nutrient requirements. We have formulated our supplements with this in mind. For example, during the preconception period, it is ideal to try to boost iron stores. However, during the first trimester of pregnancy iron can aggravate morning sickness. For this reason, our preconception multivitamin includes iron and our Prenatal Trimester One does not. Our Prenatal Trimester One has specifically been formulated to reduce morning sickness. It includes 1300mg of ginger and 75mg of vitamin B6 which have been shown to reduce the severity of nausea and vomiting in pregnancy. We recommend taking our preconception vitamins prior to trying to conceive for at least 3-4 months, to support healthy conception and increase your chances of success. Once pregnant, we recommend moving to our Prenatal Trimester One and then Prenatal Trimester 2 & 3 once your morning sickness subsides. Prenatal Trimester 2 & 3 provides even more of the key nutrients required in the last half of pregnancy and breastfeeding, including iodine, choline, zinc, vitamin D, and activated B vitamins. It also contains 24mg of bioavailable and well absorbed and well tolerated iron.
If I am iron deficient in trimester 1, is it better for me to take the women’s preconception with iron in it instead of Prenatal Trimester One that doesn’t have iron?
You don’t really need the extra iron until week 16 but if you are deficient, you could take Iron & Brain Support twice a week (iron supplementation in the first trimester makes your morning sickness worse).
Are the preconception supplements safe to continue once pregnant as I have a full box I’d like to use up.
Yes you can take them during pregnancy, however we recommend switching to Prenatal Trimester One asap because it is higher in active folate and also the sooner you start it, the better for reducing morning sickness. You can then finish your box of the preconception multi in your second trimester.
Do you recommend taking anything else on top of your prenatal supplements during pregnancy?
We recommend asking your health practitioner about other supplements you may need to take such as our Iron and Brain support until week 6 of pregnancy when the neural tube closes for the additional folinic acid and choline. Throughout pregnancy, your health practitioner may recommend taking the calcium and magnesium powder at night after dinner.
Is titanium dioxide is used in the manufacturing of any NaturoBest products?
There is no titanium dioxide or any other colourants in any of our products.
Do you have any products that helps to manage constipation when pregnant?
We recommend taking our Calcium & Magnesium Plus K2 & D3 at night after dinner. Magnesium often helps with constipation. Try also eating 2 kiwifruit at night!
